stream Hard-to-reach groups |
Hard-to-reach groups do have insufficient access to health and social
services by definition. Due to their background, their living circumstances
or their (risk) behaviour they are placed outside of mainstream society.
Risk behaviour, mobility streams, trends in drug use, law enforcement
and policies have their influences on marginalized populations and
put service providers, scientific researchers and policy makers continuously
for new challenges. Besides, they are not always aware of the specific
needs of this particular groups.
This stream is focusing on three specific hard-to-reach groups as
examples of marginalized people :
- sex workers,
- youngsters at risk
- migrants.
Each Correlation subgroup (expert group) intents to improve the access
to medical and social services for its particular target group, supported
by the research and the methodology stream. By doing so, empowerment
and involvement of peers have high priority.
Tasks of the stream:
- To gather data and information on the different hard-to-reach
groups
- To map existing models and to develop new models of best practice
- To implement and evaluate models and interventions
- To develop guidelines and give advice and support to service
providers on related questions.
